A few people in this post have used dividers, i swear by this method. I put a new fish on the peaceful side of the divider on their own & leave them there sometimes up to 4-5 weeks, all the time doing weekly waterchanges & maintance etc, then when i think there ready, i remove the divider while doing a waterchange, so while the fish are running around madly they dont realise the barrier is gone.
By that time all the chest beating has been done and they seem to just get on with it.
Try this method 'x3' i've had great success & hav'nt lost any fish since. good luck.

i normally start off with this method being that only a few CA get along at the begining.

Well I removed the problem which was the female jd. Now I just have the texas, oscar, and flowerhorn together in the 100g and they seem to be doing fine. Am I still overstock? These guys aren't "adults" at 4"s are they?

^^ and im thinking about introducing another JD this time but male and hopefully more mellow. i love how male jds look and will try the divider method before i put in him with the other guys but i wont if it seems like im too overstocked. all these fish are only 4" currently. looking to upgrade to a bigger tank in the future though.

I used the divider method when I introduce 2 new Oscars to my much older Oscar (another example of it working). The older one was a little over 10 inches and the two new ones were less than 2. He's always been pretty mellow but he practically guards them.
