How To Keep A Woman Happy...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks. :)
In primary school I was taught LxWxH (in cm) ÷ 1000 = approx volume. But I'm terrible at math and can't divide for the life of me. :D
Easier way is lxwxh in inches divided by 231 or lxwxh in feet and multiply by 7.48

Her method is for litres. much easier than gallons. its annoying having to convert the whole time

You could probably get away with two males quite honestly, assuming it's heavily planted. Most info online, and my own experience is that male Betta occupy space 2x2 max as their territory.

Personally I'd use the 6' as an opportunity for something else, and keep the Betta in something smaller...a 6 foot tank is begging for some 7-8 inch fish at least imo :P
What about man wh*ring him? What's your opinion on that idea? I'd probably rather that than trying two males... :D

And my hubby and I have agreed that we're (supposedly) not getting any more freshwater fish until all of our current fish are living "the life" so to speak, and I feel a betta in a 6' tank is a HUGE step towards that lol

They claim about a square metre in the wild so, 9 square feet a betta male.

I would also say keep the betta in a smaller tank, there are nice fish you can keep in there for a larger community
See above. :D

I found it to be much more difficult than stocking a harem of cichlids. Even just raising the females usually resulted in one alpha at very least outcompeting the rest. It maybe worth the effort, just keep us posted with your findings
Will do... If I even go this route, the more I read on it the more skeptical I become about it being possible... :(

How is dividing something by 231 easier than dividing it by 1000??? Do Americans find hard things easy and easy things hard? Same with multiplying decimals... Man, I would have failed an American math class if that's the case hahaha

I feel most on this site though would prefer it to be said in gallons lol even in Canada gallons is used for fish tanks
I feel like most on this site are smarter than me, therefore should be more capable of working the conversions out in their heads than I am, because I suck at converting things in my head... I try to post both litres and gallons where I know the gallons, but we work in litres down here so that's my "go to" so to speak lol

In the UK we use imperial gallons which is 4.54609 liters a US gallon is 3.785 liters. Much prefer to use liters, it's the same every where.

If u mean to keep multiple bettas in an aquarium u should have 3 males and six to 8 females,u also need lots of visual barriers like plants,u should also have a bunch of peaceful small fish such as white clouds minnows, tetras of peaceful species, guppies etc,all bettas should be introduced at the same time and the males should be introduced in different parts of the tank.

If I do it, it will be one or the other. Either Miles with some Milettes or Miles with a "bro".

I don't want ten males and 30 females, besides, its only a 260ish litre tank, I can't cram too much in there. :P

I'm leaning more towards the Milettes than the "bro", do you guys think 6 Milettes be enough?

That would make the total stocking plan:
X1 Miles
X6 Milettes
X5-7 kuhlli loaches
X1 mini cae
X15 white cloud minnows

Gimme your suggestions guys, more Milettes? Less Milettes? Less minnows? More kuhllis?

I already have the cae, two minnows and three kuhllis so they'll be guaranteed additions to the tank anyways... What I'm wondering is if my stock plan could work?

I'd like to keep the total stocking small enough that if I need a divider or to separate, I'm not cramming fish into tanks that are too small for them, I have backup tanks, but they're quite small (150ltrs and under). Thanks guys! :)

Edit:
Post Script: if I do try the Milettes, the plan was to separate a foot or two of the 6', get a sorority established in the bigger section, then put Miles in the smaller section until he settles in, then feed at opposite ends while removing the separator. If that's a bad idea, someone let me know!
