How to keep aquarium clean

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Difficult to get sufficient waterflow from bottom to up! What filtration setup you have now? Maybe you have long tank, so think you can have 3 or 4 x submerged spraybars, all along tank length, placed 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down, just not too deep so that sand is not stirred up...

But, if using idea like this with sump filter, MUST have one-way valve after pump, so tank is not 2/3 empty or 3/4 empty, if ever power goes out or pump breaks.

Agree with need lot more filter, lot, lot more! Even 2 of your filter is just minimum OK for goldfish, but for your fish I think they need filter turnover rate of at LEAST three or four times your tank volume every hour!

Over filtration and good water flow in the tank sand bottom easy as that.

Just remember if you blow all the dirt up from tank sand bottom, then your dirt gets sucked into canister, BUT THEN, you will need to be cleaning canister filter much more frequently. So, if you not like vacuum, I think you also not like cleaning canister filter! So, I now go back to original corydoras / clown loach idea, LOL! I can see some clown loach grow too big and fat in your tank, Haha!

P.S. Oh wait, I just remember your fish...clown loach gets eaten, aaahhh!!

Yeah, deff not not enough filtration and movement . I moved my fish up to my 240 before I was totally ready. Moved a 125 gallon set up and it was a ***** moving my tank and fish.. Didn't want to move my monsters again do I started my 240 too soon.. End of month bonus will go toward fx5, and powehead. Maybe around 5 clown loaches.. Snails?

Fx5 will be great and adding 2 power heads will be good also. Push the water towards the intake on the filter.

upgrade your filters and go from there.. bichir and plecos are great clean up crew.. so i would suggest feeding less more often... adding more fish to an underfiltered tank makes absolutely no sense to me.
until you can upgrade i would be doing water changes vaccing out the extra waste, not only for the aestetics... but to avoid ammonia spikes. haveing an underfiltered tank may not be handleing your bio load effectively. water test should give you an idea if just netting out is sufficent or if you should be doing water changes with the waste removal.
