how to lower the aggression level in my tank???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im speaking out of experience and whats worked for me some people might start clucking but i dont care in a large enough tank with good maintenance routines i always say over stock or at least don't under stock. Higher temperatures also effect aggression so turn it down a notch. Feeding smaller frequent meals. No live food lowers prey drive in certain species. Add long thick decor. Branches plants ect. This doesnt let a fish target one or might even lose him easier in chase. Breaks up line of sight. Mix up the caves and pots and territorial things every once in a while, this wont let anyone dominate and take over any one pot or cave or piece of driftwood and battle all who dare enter. Raising fish together from small sizes also will decrease aggression and chances of that fish turning on the other one. What overstocking does is it doesnt allow targeting and bullying. Doesnt allow anyone on becoming the boss or pinning that one fish against a corner every time it tries to move.
Again this is my opinion based on years of putting these things to practice and not following every rule but you asked and im giving you my .2

I have to agree! I keep aggressive fish together myself, And what he's saying works.
1 or 2 aggressive fish are a terror, 10 or 12 is less stress. I also do 2 or 3 smaller feedings a day.

put in what I like to call "target fish" in.... I know it sounds horrible, but get some really hard semi agressive large fish. Toss em in. I used large tinfoil barbs with my aggressive cichlids.

But yea all the other ideas work also. lol.
