HOW TO MAKE A CRYSTAL CLEAR TANK???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2 cents, If you are getting green water (microalgae) do a partail water change everyother day for a week or so, and while you are doing that make sure your tank doesn't get direct sunlight and that you turn off the light at night, If your tank is not planted yet add macro algae like elodea or cabomba, a few bunches of each, you don't even have to root them. They will outcompete the microalgae for nutrients. You should see a difference within a week or two.

use a diatom filter you can't go wrong for polishing

RIGHT ON, shovelnose! I tried one of these out recently on my saltwater tank to rid it of an ich problem, and the difference in the clarity of the water was absolutely AMAZING! Also, it didn't completely clear the ich, but it does seem to have mitigated it quite a bit.

But you have to pre-filter a diatom filter because else you can clean it every 10 minutes.

on my heavy loaded 30 gallon

2 45-60 percent water changes a week

1 sand filter with 1 pound of sand ( its a diy model run by a powerhead)

1 ac 300 (2 snd size down from the biggest one?) 2 sponges in the media enclosure and half a sponge on the intake (its a sand tank)

air pump pumping air to one of those suction cup rectangular filters with a sponge and charcoal in it (about 2in long by 2in wide by 4 in high)

thats my formula for an overstocked clear water tank

I had an aquaclear 300 and a large powerhead just circulating my 55 gallon. It was crystal clear. Heavy filtration and circulation. That's my .02

My 75 has been clowdy with algae and other crap for about two months now. How do I fix it?? I already learned that chemicals(especially if misused) can really mess with your crustations and a beautiful australian Goby. :( Pleae HELP

Howdy,

I think here's a little confusion between words: Clear means no floating particles. Clear water can still be colored. I think you refer to algae bloom. I have no clue what cloudy water could have to do with driftwood, as toxicfish suspected.

Here's the deal: As many said before, it's a nutrient imbalance. Change water regularly, keep your feeding under tighter control and get plants. In addition to guppy's suggestion, I'd actually also got floating plants. They do the most to get nutrients out of the water: Water lettuce works great for me, you could also use hydrocotyle leucocephala or anything you can find that floats.

And you're right: Don't mess with chemicals! Most algae traetments are copper-based, which kills invertebrates and harms most catfish.

I believe he might be referring to the yellowish tint that driftwood can give to the water.
