I am narendra from INDIA (state-karnataka) . I have a pearl arowana(Scleropages jardini) . He is about 5 inch long (including tail). I gave him small guppies and mollies for first 2 weeks . Now i want to make him eat arowana food sticks( brand OCEAN FREE) . I have kept him in a 4x1.5x1.5feet tank with 2 plecos and a pair of parrot cichlids. He swallows a piece of food and spits it out, he has done this few times. I also tried frozen shrimp but he spits it out too. Its been 4 days that i didnt feed him live fish. I would like some suggestions and advice from experienced arowana keepers.

Just have to starve him for a couple of days. It took mine about a week to eat pellets. When he was small he loooooved black worms.

Hi there narendra, not an expert but from my experience try to make him fast for 2-3 days. The fact that it's spitting the sticks out is its getting use to the taste. Will soon start eating. I tried the same and am feeding my jar with Hikari Carnivorous stick and Nutrafin Arowana sticks. Stop making it feed with live food for the time being😊

Hi.. I dont have experience with Jars.. but most young aros are the same.. the fact that your aro is taking the pellet and spitting it out is a sign.. the aro thinks it is food and will slowly take it in due course.. i really wouldn't recommend starving young aros..they need nutrition to grow.. try dried shrimp, dried worms along with the pellets.. what are you feeding the plecos and parrot cichlids btw? please have a read at the stickies.. should give you enough and more info.. all the best.. cheers

when i got my GATF at 3-4 inches he only ate live, i put in a pike cichlid with him which ate dry food at the top, i starved him for 3-4 days and it started eating krill and food sticks. I think its easier if u have other fish that kinda train him to eat it

Hi Narendra... Welcome to MFK :)... just follow the above suggestions... but like Kaya mentioned not good to starve a young aro at this stage... u can certainly get him off the live food... i would suggest you to feed him some market shrimps or some silver sides (just the meat cut into small cubes)... I have a 8" Jar got him at the 2" he eats pellets, worms, fillets and MS like a champ.... and yes at this stage if you can provide some dark shade around top corner would be great you could use some floating plants... makes them feel secure... good luck mate...

BTW nice looking Jar... goood pick ;)
