We have literally had hundreds of gallons spilled on our wood floor over the past seven years..although probably no more than fifty gallons at a time. The floor will have to be refinished after the fish are moved into their new tank. The floor in the current equipment room is totally damaged by forgetting to turn the water off and letting the water run all day. We have to be in the same room and pay attention.
The only fun part is petting the fish when I scrub the tank walls. The fish get in the way and like to be petted.
Usually I just sit back and watch the drama that is going on on the tank while I work. I've also been known to so the zombie thing and pull out my phone and jump on MFK.
I get the syphon going and jump in the shower. It's a mad race to get done showering and back to the tank before it's 75% drained. Then I just flip the switch on the water changer and fill the tank back up.
Honestly, I probably save time on days I do water changes because I shower faster.
I crack open this valve and 300 gallons goes to my garden in @ 5 minutes, before I blink water changes are over. I can barely get 2 beers down in that time.
