How to mount bullkhead on non flat surface?

Hi,

It is silly question but is there simple way
I’m not seeing?

The tote has ridges on inside and outside.
The bulkhead is 1.5”, hole is like 3” so it will
hit ridges.

Silicon is only way to avoid leaks?

I need the bulkheads on long side of the tote unfortunately.

Look up uniseal. Its like a bulkhead for curved surfaces

why do you need bulkhead on the longside of the tote? if you are building an shower filter you want the bulkhead in the bottom to drain back to tank.

do you have IKEA where you live. if so they have an collection of plastic totes they call samla. thats what i use for my showerfilters.

I just tried the Uniseal and it works, although 2 of them face inwards, still works. It is the way the ridges are inside and outside.

Initially I was going to do Uniseal then got paranoid with all the bad reviews of them leaking.
I figured I could always re-use the bulkheads later but can’t mount them anyway, so bad move.

I am facing the long side of the tote towards the tank. I have 3x 1 1/2” Drains back to the tank for bottom bin.
So yes, you are correct, the drains are towards bottom of tank.

I’m only doing 2 stack for now. Top bin has 1” for hose to spray bar.

I can post pic later once it’s done if it helps someone else. I need one more uniseal and I’m done.

Can you clarify if it makes a difference to use drain pipe on inside bottom with tons of holes in it?
I’m kinda doing what the PondGuru shows on his video. He has a drain pipe with holes all over the pipe
and then exits out through the bulkhead fitting.

well yeah you can do it that way if your doing like an moving bed filter. i dont use any pipes on the inside of my filters at all. i use either an small plastic tote upside down drilled with ****loads of holes or im using aquatic plantpots over the bulkheads. you dont have to make it over complicated.

you dont want the filter to fill up with water. an inch or two in the bottom is okey so you dont have any gurgling noice from the water leaving the filter. i have maybe an half inch of water in my filters. but i have a fishroom so i dont care about the noicelevels at all. and dont use bulkheads in the bottom of the first tote. you cut the lid out in the second so you just stack the first ontop and drill the first with a lot of holes so it trickles over the media in the second one. you can always use an extra bulkhead and have a pvc pipe halfway up the last tote as an emergency drain. same in the first if it is getting clogged and fills with water.

If I use 1” Uniseal for intake, I have 1” PVC coming out of the Uniseal, how do I connect 1” pond hose to this?

I only see 1” Barb to 1” socket, but the socket only fits 3/4” PVC and not 1”. I was looking on Amazon.

well you dont have to have 1" straight through. you can fit it down to a smaller size for the spraybar. im running 40mm hose to my filters and the spraybar is 32mm pvc.
