In the U.S. they're called sandals or flip flops. No tagalog here! I'm just a tourist from the U.S. ! :D

Yes of all the places I have been, The Philippines is a hands down favourite of mine.

Though I was almost ready to call myself joe by the time I was done there.

I also regret what happened in the market. I was buying the food for the feast I was cooking for them. I came to one stall in the market and decided I would buy some of their peppers. These little tiny green buggers. I wanted to make a chili salsa to go with the fish I was making, so I decided to try one of the chilis and busted it in half and put part in my mouth. The two sisters running the stall started to laugh, took me about 1 second to realize bad move james.

The people there were fantastic, and that fist house that was moved is exactly the style in which I stayed.

I know the feeling. When they call me "Joe" I call them Phil! :D

I've done the same thing with peppers here too when I was sampling some for some homemade salsa. I burned my lips, tongue AND fingers!

Even the next day, after MANY hand washings and rubbing my eye subconsciously it STILL burned! HOT stuff!

The people here ARE fantastic, especially out away from the cities in the more rural areas. They are generally very friendly and inquisitive, but shy. They are VERY willing to share even if they have next to nothing!

Nippa huts have their pros and cons just like any other form of housing.
They are definitely cooler than most as they are well "ventilated"! :D

not my pics as mine are all on 35 mm film but close enough to represent the area where we based out of

What I found very interesting was the trip off the beaten path to the mountain areas

None of my letters or faxes arrived ahead of me so when I got there it was a complete surprise to my hosts. They thought I would want to stay in what passed for a costal resort, but I told them that I was going to live as they live no special treatment. It was not the next day when I made the mistake of touching some place, ever the chefs grand mistake when working with hot's ahahahahahhah

A very fantastic and loving people. It was a shock to see the compound type places the govt officials lived in.

Yup! Looks VERY familiar! :D

Our property is definitely off the beaten path and is in the hill country over a mountain range., but it is close enough to a major city that getting things isn't an all day project. Beautiful and laid back, right on the river, plus it already has the makings of a HUGE pond! It is at an elevation that cools off enough at night that you need a thin blanket or a wife to keep you warm. :D My wife's parents/family are farming it and it will have paid for itself after 4 or 5 years, then we will buy some more land! Our future homesite is all planned out and will have an awesome view of the valley!

Very cool.

Haha, wow. You'd have to pay me at least three chickens to move a house!
