forgive my ignorance but im not sure how to plumb your standard built in overflow down to the pvc. can anyone help me with this and tell me a list of supplies that ill need?

What brand of tank?
What are you plumbing it to? (I assume a sump?)
Pics?

To start with, you will need a bulkhead(s). Most tanks are drilled for 1" bulkheads, but that can vary. You may also need a standpipe of some sort, depending on what the overflow looks like.

Give us some more specifics and MFK can definitely help you get your tank hooked up. :)

do you mean transition from the bulk head to the pvc? if so id go with a slip on pipe to slip into the bulkhead. that slip on pipe that you slip into the bulk head should be threaded on the other end so you can screw on the piping from there. id do this because if you need to remove the tank you dont have to cut the pvc and just unscrew at that point and still be able to remove the bulkhead for service/replacement etc......

more info on your setup and i can help you more.....GL

unfortunately my tank isn't here yet, movers were way to late last night. im about 80% sure theres bulkheads. not sure of the brand of the tank or size of the overflow yet. its a little over 300 gallons with two overflows. yes i am trying to plumb down to a sump. as soon as it arrives ill upload a few shots, hoping to do this today.

i like hard pipe. from the bulkhead make sure you use somthing that can be removed. lets say your gasket goes to hell and need to replace it. if its hard lined then you would have to cut. one option is going to tubing. thats up to you. real easy for service. if you hard line id go with a screwon type onto the bulkhead. then go into a union. im going to post a vid on my tank in a bit ill send the link so you can get ideas. what else is going down in the stand area? wetdry? filters?

give me specs and ill make a drawing that should work great and give you an idea of what to purchase for this project.

bulkhead specs....
tank specs...
stand specs...
overflow location/number...
filters....
etc...

putting a 55 gallon refugium tank, and im going to add on an algae scrubber in a second container most likely. no filters

the refugium im using was my 55 gallon sump on my previous tank. it had a 2 inch hole drilled about an inch below the top of the tank for my pvc overflow to enter. so i was going to run a piece of pvc off that into possibly another thank for more filtration of sorts, wether it by rock plants or ....?
