How to prevent heater burn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree, more holes. LOTS more holes. Also you need current flowing at the heater to get water flowing through it, if it isn't already. I wouldn't have the pipe so long myself. Try siliconing the PVC to a piece of slate to hold it upright, pipe just slightly longer then the heater and no top on it. That way the warm water can rise out of the pipe. Your heater won't cycle so much that way.

the good thing with heater gaurds is they have max flow out of the box they grip the heater they have suction cups and you can still see the stat the fluval one is universl all for $10-15

How to prevent heater burns, hmm id say provide a plethora of hiding spots, make sure that the fish has hiding spots that are better than the one by the heater. Otherwise it might not switch spots. A heater guard is good. Definitely recommend those. U could get a sump or mod an ac110 or ac70 with a heater. Or you could get an inline heater attached to a canister. Or a filter with a built in heater like eheim or jebo or sunsun. Their are hob and canister models with built in heaters.

Bro number 1 they are stingrays the only hiding spot they would use is sand which I havnt add to the tank yet also even with sand rays are active all night so still would most likely come in contact with the heater regardless to hiding spots they arnt cichlids lol and I've already taken care of the problem thanks to everyone else's previous responses I've drilled out the PVC more and my heater has a sensor on a separate wire so the wire is out side the PVC pipe and threw one of the hole I drilled so my heater won't turn off and my temp never drops in the tank and always stays steady but thanks anyway
To everyone else thanks for your responses they were all helpful
