This has bugged me for quite some time now, since when I was in Nebraska I never had to use dechlorinator since it was all well water. Now that I'm in Mississippi however, I've had to use dechlorinator quite a bit.

The thing I am confused about is, do you add the dechlorinator just to the amount of gallonage you REPLACE? Or do you add the dechlorinator to the gallonage of the WHOLE tank?

Lately I've just been doing it to the 5gal buckets, but it doesn't have a gauge for 5gals, so i probably over treat just a little bit. Anywho, just wondering.

I just add a capful to each tank and never had any problem-Anne

I just put a capful of prime in each 5 gallon bucket, add my salt, and turn on the faucet, let the salt dissolve and add it to the tank. It's better to over treat and than undertreat with dechlorinator.

I'm getting good with test feeling the water, I'm within a degree during water changes now. I used to be really bad and get it in the 90s ehh. Luckily there were no fish in the tank at that time.

Yeah, I have to add a bucket of cold and a bucket of luke warm to get the temp just right in the tank. Normally comes out within a degree or so.

I use AquaSafe Dechlorinator. Great stuff, haven't had any problems with it so far. It hasn't harmed my fish from over dechlorinating that i know of. I was just wondering cuz its gettin expensive always havin to get new ones, so if i could use less to do the same job that would be awesome.

just for what you change, not the tank amount each time. :D

i use a kitty litter bucket.
fill up one gallon jugs, put them in a bucket one at a time till you have even gallons.
then use a marker to mark the water level.
then i have a ml syringe.figure out how many ml are for a gallon.
heres my math
5 ml- 10 gallons
2 1/2 ml - 5 gallons
1 1/4 ml - 2 1/2 gallons
5/8 ml - 1 1/4 gallon
1/2 ml - 1 gallon

if you fill 5g buckets, then you only need to put in amount required for 5g. if you put tap straight into the tank, then you must add to the amount of the tank volume...

I always overdose.

Do you use buckets to fill your tanks?? Doesn't that take a long time?? I just use the garden hose.

I have a The Woodford Model 29(google it) hosebibb on the side of my house. Great for washing dogs and filling fishtanks.

When I use the hose treat the tank. When i use the poland spring jugs, I treat the jugs.

I use a Python for changes/refills.
I add Prime before refilling and I double dose (chloramines) the entire tank volume not just the replacement volume.

There is no way in hell I'd ever go back to the bucket brigade:eek:
