Hey Guys,

I have found a guy willing to sell me a 25 gallon - for my 3 baby oscars and a baby JD in a 10 gallon currently.

As I am starting in a new tank, how would I preserve my efforts at cycling the 10 gallon?

If I am to use the same filter media and gravel, will I be okay?

Please - suggestions.

The guy will be trading me his 25 gallon set up (with a new filter and new medium) for my 10 gallon and my filter (no medium).

How will I be able to save my fish?

You'll be ok with the same filter media and gravel but your bigger problem is those 4 babies are going to outgrow your tank in a hurry. You're in NYC...where are you exactly? i may be able to hook you up with a bigger tank.

Yeah - I know - I live in Manhattan - Union Square area...

This is a temp tank - moving out of my apt in June - upgrading to something that will be big enough for all of them...

You looking to sell a bigger setup?

I have a spare 55 gallon flat back hex tank with wood stand and hood but even that won't be enough room for the monsters your raising. Read up on those fish....the dempsey is the only one I see happy in that 25...by himself

Are you serious? (Or are you trolling?) That 25g tank will be insufficient for ONE oscar by June, let alone three - and three midas mutts - and a JD. To house those fish comfortable together as adults, you're looking at a 180+ tank to spread out aggression. Even with a 180, I'm not sure that'd be enough.

This is what you do. Give away all the fish you own or will be receiving. Go buy a few guppies for the 10g (all of the same sex since you cannot accommodate any fry). Get a couple of mollies and an otto or two for the 25g tank. Call it a day.

Wake up the next day. Do research on the fish you plan on getting before you get them.

I would be afraid to keep all of those fish in my 210, I couldn't imagine them in a 35. I keep a female red devil (similar to the midas) by it's self in a 55.
