How to tell if it is a FAKE?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You said your neighbor bought the tank. When? Was the tank cycled? If not, the fish probably died during the cycle phase. It was stressed as well as being harmed by the bad water parameters during cycling and this caused stress and loss of color. The Doctor.

I would think that it may not be a pure stain and has a normal JD gene in there. Maybe Daddy or Mommy, even the Grandparents may have been a normal JD.

Haven't heard of it, but if you question its legitimacy, just don't buy it and go for one that looks like the real thing
The problem is the OP already bought it so a refund has to be in order if he paid higher than what this fish is supposed to be worth.

??? The OP didn't buy a EBJD, his neighbor did. The OP is asking how to tell so he doesn't fall to the problem as his neighbor. I would agree with Cich Anonymous.

UM.... ALL EBJD's come from a normal parent very close to the beginning of the line ;)

Show us a pic of what was sent from AZ as it is now;)

My neighbor bought a beautiful 70 Gallon corner tank. The first thing he did was purchase a EBJD. After 2 weeks of having the little guy (1 inch) all his color dissappeared. He took the lil guy to a local fish store and they informed him that this was a nock off, or harmone induced color.

I myself, want a true EBJD, does anyone know any hints to tell the difference between Harmone induced and true EBJD??

Show us a pic ;) I think your LFS is smokin somethin funny.. :D

Here's my new BDAY present ;) Real deal.. Doesn't look too deformed you think??? :D

Some EBJDs lose colour as they grow, leaving them with a mostly white background colour with black marks and some blue areas. I had a female like this.

To my knowledge they are not being given hormones, nor does diet have much effect on the extent of blue displayed as this is determined by genetics.
