so pretty much what the title says, my new little GT has started to have frikin stringy white poo like my last one, i know its not parasites as i kept him in a quarantine tank for about two weeks when i first got him and all his poo looked normal and healthy, i dont know why he is now gettin an infection in my large tank when i keep it clean and there are sensitive wild angelfish in with him that are doing great, he has a voracious appetite so i will have no problem giving him medicated food, just wanted to know if there was a way to get rid of this without having to medicate my entire tank. i am going to go get some frozen peas tomorrow and start supplementing those into his diet, he hand feeds so that should go off without a hitch, would just soaking his food in garlic help or should i soak it in an actual medication? this is the same thing my last GT had and i even treated my last one for parasites and he still had it so it was definitely a bacterial infection (his girlfriend made him jump before i could heal it) do they become more resistant to this kind of thing as they grow larger (like a ebjd becoming hardier?) or is this something you have to continue to worry about with these guys

I have a 3 in GT and a 9 in GT (i just got from a friend a week ago), and the 9 in GT got internal parasites the day I got him, so pretty sure they don't get more robust as they grow. Im currently treating, as per my LFS's orders, 82 degree water and 1 table spoon salt per 10 gallons. regular salt works fine, they say. The white stringy poop is actually stomach lining. I cut down on all live foods that could harbor parasites, and use more peas. It's the third day of treatment and he seems to be getting better. :) GL.

Unless your fish starts losing appetite or thin out, then there is no reason to treat. If you have metronidazole however, I'd keep a few tablets just in case of emergencies.

yeah i never feed live foods except for the occasional insect and im almost positive it is not parasites but bacterial, and thanks lupin yeah he has a voracious appetite and is always searching the tank for food and has a nice fat belly, i just know with parasites you want to treat before they stop eating so i just figured it was the same with bacterial infection, but yeah i only have left over jungle parasite tabs and tetracyclene, which is anti-bacterial so i guess i could soak his food in that if he started to take a turn for the worse, but yeah i guess for now i will add the peas and see if that helps

I have had the same problem with both my GT's. I have one 4" female and one 4" male. The male has it now and has stopped eating. I've treated the tank and cured it before but it is back again. This is starting to get really frustrating....lol

Lower temp to 76 degrees. And leave them for a few days. Don't force feed or put too much food in trying to feed them. They should slowly start picking at food in a few days and gradually eat again within a week.

Meds won't do much, but stress them out.

Skin some peas and give them a quick squeese to break them but not mash them, mince some garlic as fine as you can I've used a mini food processor too. Let the peas sit in the garlic for a couple of hours and then feed them to your GT, if you can get him to eat a little garlic even better. Garlic is very good for the gastro intestinal system. This should strighten him right out.

cool thanks, yeah im getting the peas today so i guess i will pick up some garlic as well and yeah he is a little piggy, and i have started with handfeeding him so i should be able to get him to eat a little bit of garlic as well as the peas, and im going to make the peas a daily addition to his diet from now on, he pics at the pleco's algae wafer but i guess that isnt enough greens for him

Hey Sarah, I would really apprehiate a PM if you find a med that truly works.
My female GT has eat 1 single flake in 4 months! Her stomach doesnt look sunken but she hasnt grown at all. Ive even gone to the extreme of force feeding her skinned peas with garlic. Tried praz, mela, metro, salt, garlic, antibiotics. Ive even tried Acriflavine and potassium permanganate. All seperatly and label directed. She still wont eat anything and was perfectly fine the first couple months I had her. Ive actually given up on her now, If she gets anymore unhealthy ive unfortunatly decided to resort to the clove oil.
Good luck with your GT. The faster you can get him to eat, the more likely he will pull through.

Same problem I had. Don't bother pretending it's a parasitic infection. It's not. You can throw all the anti-parasitic meds you want to at that fish and it won't do you any good.

Treat it like an internal bacterial infection.
