How would these fish look like in a community tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have heard Apistogrammas are hard to keep, just a heads up Kingster Kingster .

Yeah i would not put the threadfins in either. From what ive seen they will eat the shrimp and any smaller tetras. Maybe just start with one uaru and all the other fish you mentioned then decide later if you want another large fish in the tank. Im kicking myself for getting two severums for my community tank. All they do is lay eggs and cause trouble when theyre together.

If this is your first time keeping large fish like Uaru, especially those that are susceptible to hole-in-the head, I would keep the stocking to

Uaru
penguin tetras 10+
colombian tetras 10+

Hi thanks guys for the advice, one thing, i always see most people put Uaru and Eartheaters together and it looks stunning, besides the eartheaters i am taking out, anything else I should take out and replace with more better color pair with Uaru, better if ommonly available like on live aquaria

I'd recommend jeff rapps at tangledupincichlids.com over liveaquaria. Have heard stories of people getting incorrect fish from there.
Most small south americans would be ok to have a pair or harem of with a uaru in a 120, IMO. Maybe reduce tetra count a bit to make up for it. As rocksor noted, uaru are prone to HITH- so you've got to keep their water really clean. Easier to do with less fish. 2x water change a week at least would also be recommended.

Okay so I just wanted to maybe challenge someone to make a stocking of a 120 with the following requierments: SOUTH AMERICAN THEMED BTW
- Low agro, large cliched, with personality - Severums or Uaru
- schooling fish at least 3 inch long - Penguin or Colombian Tetra or both?
- Cleanup crew - Corys?
- Invert - could only find Vampire shrimp, some times found in south america
- Eartheater (Maybe/hopefully)
- few (Dwarf cichlids) I just love them
- 1 tiny dwarf little pike cichlid

I kinda asked for the impossible, but if anyone can make a stocking out of this I would be so greatful (Wont hold you accountable if I go with it and something goes wrong, Dont worry :))
Just give it a shot.

Likely specs:
Driftwood (Locally)
Beach Sand from RONA (Brown).... Should I get white, will it look better???
Bunch of Tannin stuff from Tannin aquatics :) SAVU PODS for dwarf cichlids
fx5 filter

I love you guys and the people of this forum, you guys help me so much, and my MUST HAVE EVERYTHING syndrome

Clean up crews are not needed. Your water changer is the best clean low-bio clean up crew. The problem with cleanup crews is that they can starve them if the other fish are aggressive eaters, so you get in a cycle of overfeeding, more maintenance, and more feeding.

dwarf pike can make other bottom cichlids stressed out due to aggression, and I wouldn't keep an invert with a pike in the tank. They love to eat inverts.

Even in a group of 10, severums can beat on each other pretty hard. If you keep one you will be fine, and you don't need a cleanup crew with a severum. They will find food on the bottom substrate.

Since you love dwarf cichlids, you don't need a cleanup crew since they stick naturally to the bottom substrate stick and will eat food from there

Uaru
dwarf cichlids
columbian adults would be a better contrast to Uara amphiacanthoides
shrimp if you really want to try
