Yeah..I wish had central air. House is built in 30's...so any chance of retrofitting it will cost an arm and a leg. I have a small a/c in my basement..but it only cools down my office/work room only. Besides I really don't want to leave an a/c on all day...since I'm only home 1/3 of the day. :irked:

Same here--we are card holding members of PAMF and had to buy a house built in the 40s. We can't afford a new one. Well, maybe we could if we gave up all of our hobbies but fish = love so I'll live in an old house, thanks. ;)

:D lucky you.

I don't even bother to have the lights on lately just to help reduce the temp.

I have a feeling its my quiet one 4000HH that is producing quite a bit of heat, since its in my sump.

I'm thinking of just picking up a chiller, but now thats more work involved. Gotta run a separate 15amp line for that and a lil bit of plumbing.
Is your sump on the basement floor ? the cool concrete will help.
If you think your return pump (submersible I'm assuming) is part of the problem, get an external pump rather than a chiller and extra circuit.
"Rig" up some fans (low voltage like for computers, or line voltage like "box" fans) to blow across the sump/tank.
Evaporative cooling works much better than some people realize (it's how we humans cool off).
Yeah the water evaporates faster, but then you just add back cold water.

i finally got the A/C fixed in the truck. redneck a/c didnt cut it this year (windows down)

Translation (friendly)
P = Lower income
A = what you sit on
M = another name for your Mom
F = ........ well, maybe not so friendly after all.
How do I know this ???

Nah..sump is inside the cabinet of the tank with ventilation tho. The way I have my pump in the tank it'd be a pain to move it outside since the bulkhead I drilled is at the top of the DIY w/d so that's out of the question of having it outside. Maybe I'll rig up a few PC fans...I know I should have about 8 of them lying around somewhere.

Well I do plan to get a chiller, since I'm planning on getting a 240g Long Tenecor tank so I figure to get a bigger chiller to cool off my 125 and 240 because I'm going to redo the setup. In-wall for the tanks more than likely with a 55g DIY W/D...this way I'll mount the pumps on the outside. :grinno:

But for now I'll try that...the 12V fans and see if that helps.

Thanks.
