Far Away From Here
I just recenting pick up a female hystrix 6 day ago.I was just wondering if anyone out there have any idea how to get my female hsytrix eating again. She hasn't eating for about 6 day now. When I pick her up her disc was bitten by another fish but is healing slowly now. She don't look skinny and her tail is still fat. Does anyone have any advices to get her back on track to eating again. I have tried mp, sinking pellet, black worm and even ghost shrimp, but she hasn't even attempts to eat it. I thinking she might eat when the light is off or at night time but can't tell.:( Thanks all.

Yes I have test the water and had recently change my water 40 % out as well. Anyone have any idea what to do. Should I keep on changing the water again each day?

Hi Jessica,

The water is good. I just did a waterchange again today. The tank is 120 gallon fish tank that she is house in. She is living with baby datnoid at the moments 3 of them. Her current size is about 7 inches. She was eating Market Pawn that was what the last owner had inform me. Well I will try to get some earthworm today and see if she will eat that. Hopefully she will eat that. I will try and chop it up to smaller size for her. Thank you for the suggestion. Will keep you updated. Thanks again.

You didn't see the ray eat the prawn?

Red worms and black worms are the most likely to be eaten, I'd offer it both chopped and whole twice daily. A bare-bottom tank with no tankmates makes it much easier to tell whether the ray is eating at all.

Hi back. What does "good" mean? Sorry, it's different for everyone, and want to make sure you didn't miss something. Or that you're using test strips as those are inaccurate.

Good luck. I hope she eats.

Agreed ^... you have to find there food type. Rays tend to be picky eaters. Mine eats only frozen shrimp or black/blood worms. I had a friend with a retic that won't eat anything... soon my friend got desperate and went to the store and picked up some mussels, and a full trout. The ray ate the trout after it was precut and frozened. If you manage to get her to start eating then it should be eas for her to continue. Once started eating you can try other things but first start out with the food that she will eat. Water temp? I had a aro that wouldn't eat anything cause the water was too cold... i fugured that most fish does this that is at a certain level. Aros aren't that hard but it isn't like a pacu or oscar.

Thanks^
