Hsytrix Ray Not Eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi all,

I went out and got some earthworm for her today. I also did a waterchange in the morning time. So will feed her later tonight. I also took my water to a local fish store to have them tested for me. The reading was on. So it not the water problems. The temp. in the tank is alway at 81 - 82. Maybe she just trying to get use to my tank. But I will feed her later and see. Hopefully she will eat. I also notice she moving around alot more today from one corner to the other. She not burying herself underneath the sand as much or staying at one spot. The parameters are below. Just wanted to say thank you to all the expert ray keeper for you help and advices. Will give an update when she start to eat again.

the water parameters

ph 7
ammonia 0
nitrate 0-5
nitrite 0
temp 81

I say the water is temp is pretty good. My first ray however ate right when he got home from a 10 hour drive. I got him in a different state and carried him all the way to seattle as the prices up in seattle are way more expensive and i could only find ones about 1 foot in diameter. So ya he ate right away and didn't bury himself at all and seemed comfortable with the new tank in about 10 minutes. Am i just lucky or does most ray get used to tanks really easily and or eat really easily. Could just be cause the ray is motoro and they are the hardiest of all rays but ya. Keep us posted hope she will eat.

a high post count is in no way an indication of 'expert' status. some people just get over excited when they join this site and post on everything and anything.

if your water params check out and no other tankmates are stressing the ray it is most likely just getting used to its surroundings. all fish are different. some adjust quicker than others. if its still not eating in a few days ask again and hopefully a real expert will chime in or someone with experience with this species of ray.

good luck im sure shell be fine!

Ouch, hope that wasn't directed towards me! I don't post whore like some people do, I just post a LOT trying to help people out as I have nothing else to do during the days on my summer off. And I am by no means an expert, but try to give out advice based on my research and experience.

That said, how did you acclimate her? Maybe she is just getting used to her new tank if it was a stressful process. Common with rays ... but try to get her eating if she is skinny. Probably she was stressed at the LFS too, and this may be more of the problem. Already stressed + being moved = very stressful.

Wow, i try to post stuff that will help but i am not expert. Hope this isn't dirrected to me either. I just talk from experience. Temp is from my aro being in cold water, then i got a heater, then the adjusting i got from my first and some of my other rays, parameter is just a every day thing.

Hello All,

I'm happy she finally ate 2 day ago. She ate some earthworm nightcrawer and a little of the blackworm as well. I just hope later she will start eating more like my other rays. Hopefully I will train her to eat other foods later. As of now I will stick her on the diet on earthworm until she get use to eating more. Once again thank you to all the bro for the help and advices.
