"oh there's a big fish, I think I'll shoot it" what a redneck idiot. His state lawmakers should make that illegal. They are really the ones to blame for this tragedy.

Back in the old days they had huge boats with electric chains that would electrify anything in its path, killing thousands of alligator gars! Pretty sad.

I can understand carp fishing with a bow but beautiful alligator gars I just can't understand the purpose, ill be lucky if my kids even read about the alligator gar let alone see or fish for one!

Devil's advocate here. He caught the fish legally, and used it for food. This is the Fishing forum of the site. Have we no fisherman who have fished to eat? I get the catch and release, and thats pretty much all I have ever done, but I dont judge the people who fish for food, or trophy.

Unfortunately, you are correct. I agree :(

That is so annoying how that fish had to die. I have an alligator gar and they are such nice fish and have great personalities. Hopefully they will start growing in numbers again since they have 480,000 eggs at once that are poisonous. They live up to 70 years and used to get up to half a ton.

I would have to agree as well
