I have an eel that jumped into the filter last night and hit his face on the impeller. It is all messed up and he looks as though he is going to die. He has been sitting in the same place all night. I think it would be better for him if he got put down instead of suffering. Is there a humane way to euthanize a fish?

Keep him he may recover and which you would not have killed your eel and saved him and yourself some grief and sorrow.

the words "humane" and "death" dont work together no matter how you do it. i preffer something fast. you can come up with your own interpertation to that.

Well from the looks of it he looks to be blind. All the skin around his eyes and head is gone and what kind of life is being blind with no face. Ill give him time but theres no instant death for afish?

maby keep him a few days he might recover but if not put in a bag and smash of ground or one swift crack to the spine should do it

Add some aquarium salt to the tank forget what the dosage is.Maybe melifix/pimafix.and give it some time.

Eel? FW? Mastacembelidae? If so,these guys swim upstream in their native asia,i've caught FW "Eels" doing this in my tanks. They will try and swim right into the output/discharge of an H.O.B. filter.Especially when the water level is right up to it.Bio-Wheels seem to be a spot they like to jam themselves in.If your eel does not make it,i suggest freezing it:(

In the end its up to you what you do, either way I think you will be supported whichever you choose.

My opinion is to euthenise (though only you can tell how badly the fish is suffering), its my opinion that if the fish is in pain I would rather put it down, knowing it wont suffer anymore, than possibly thinking it could spend weeks suffering and might pull though.
