maybe none of us should keep any wild caught fish then, you're just taking it from its home and putting it into a tank for your enjoyment. how is that any different from hunting for fun

We're talking about killing not collecting.

It is still a trophy in a tank same as a hunters trophy on the wall... It no longer breeds or interacts with the environment it was plucked from...

when hunting u are out to take the animals last breth last thoughts and last moments of its life.. collecting fish yes u are taking it out its environment but your not commiting murder and your also keepin it captive and taking care of it ,dosnt make it right but most fish in the trade now are captive bred just like our food sources captive bred ,the over population sceme is an exuse to kill...

The arguement in this thread was killing that beast who was the star of his kind and whathaveyou and how it would offset that ecology in that region by removing the top dog and such. Whether you kill the animal or put it in an aquarium you do the exact same thing to the environment.

Overpopulation is not an excuse for various animals in various parts fo the country. If you honestly think that then you need to leave this convo and do some research into the impact of the overpopulation in areas. Start with deer in PA for one......

Environmentally speaking taking a fish home with you to put in an aquarium or gutting it on the side of the stream is the exact same thing.

You can also cite captive breeding for food all you want too but perhaps you should go to a plant and see how the animals are shipped and killed. I think just about anyone would prefer to have a single round through their head from a hunter.

^good point, and another own

thanks but really it was too easy to reply to that one. Though as you stated him using the term murder almost made me want to just ignore the comment fully since he obviously cant process the situation fully to debate with...

10 pages of this thread...this isn't all about the animals place in the environment but the ethics of hunting.

Right, its a "harvest" or some other alternative description made to justify the actions being "necessary." Even though this post made the point clear about it being unnecessary....but go ahead and keep on drawing comparisons to deer and other irrelevant nonsense.

Hunting wasn't necessary where that Gator was killed........Makes no sense really, and yes, I live about 20 minutes from the area that Gator was killed so I have first hand experience.........There are plenty of animals in the 6-10ft class just a minute beyond civilization that would have made anybody proud........I firmly believe that a slot size should be implemented that will manage populations just like any sport Fish.........

Some things just aren't "neccessary".........

That Gator more than likely controlled at least a mile or more of prime territory, and would still be producing untill he was knocked out of the hierarchy by another Male.......Taking a big animal like that out of an area throws the hierarchy off, and choas will insue untill a new Male takes it over.......
