When I was 12 I staked out a Humming bird once and killed it with a rock. Does that count as primitive hunting?

I've been in the market for a recurve or compound bow. I just think its more personal and skillful than firearms. I've been looking into diy pvc pipe bows as well. Some are pretty cool.
