What is exactly the rationale behind hunting since the non hunter just throws out the same BS line.

Hunting is still so widely common in the United States because it is valuable. You may not think it is but it is.

"Wildlife managers aim to use the best available science to balance the needs of wildlife with their perception of the needs of people. Wildlife management takes into consideration ecological principles such as carrying capacity of the habitat. Most wildlife management is concerned with the preservation and control of habitat, but other techniques such as reforestation, predator control techniques such as trapping, re-introduction of species or hunting may also be used to help manage "desirable" or "undesirable" species."

Also I read somewhere (no source) that around 65% of every states DNR funding comes from Hunting and Fishing. Fishing is the largest participator sport in the United States and many people keep what they catch to feed themselves.

I forgot the name of it, but I think it's called "Camping" or something like that. I'll have to go check it out sometime.

you do know why the national parks department had to come up with a mascot called Smokey the Bear don't you?

90% of all forest fires are caused by humans...

Hunting and fishing are the back bone of American heritage and i support both:headbang2. I voted option 4 because i am so busy fishing i have never been on a proper large game hunt haha:grinno: i can't put the fishing rod down. When i was a teenager i use to terrorize the birds and squirrels with my red rider bb gun killing for fun on a daily basis:naughty::headbang2 obviously i was not going to eat a pigeon but i hear squirrel is a edable meat. Hunting for sport imo is o.k. if the animals have a strong population number like pigeons however these super rich guys out on african safahri killing rhino's and other endangered critters is wrong imo:(.

haven't they got places in Texas where if you got the money you can be a 'real BIG man' and shoot big game in enclosed areas.........that's real hunting(sarcastically said) :grinno:

i can accept people who kill and eat what they have killed,i don't mind that.......but killing for fun is a waste and just plain sick......and you can eat pigeons :grinno:

Should be hunted down. Obviously we three are the last apparent fanatics about this topic. Ready to call a ceasefire and agree to disagree. Or should we let it continue to escalate to the point where some or all of us get kicked out for arguing(over the internet no less) about hunting on a fish keeping site. If you wish, you win, as I no longer care, and you guys have all the guns anyway.:chillpill::popcorn:

yup, no need to escalate it, just a friendly discussion over a heated topic is all. thats the beauty of MFK; fishkeeping appeals to many many different types of people, all with different views. the only thing we all agree on is that we like fish. i think discussions like these are good as long as it doesnt get out of hand. at the end of the day, i dont carry any hard feelings and nobody should either, its just a forum  :)

Well said sir. I now leave this field of battle to the crows.

You're bad if you feel the need to end another creatures life unnecessarily when the stores are filled with the meat of animals who committed suicide for our benefit.
I was totally unaware they committed suicide, thanks for enlightening me...:screwy:
Just because theres stores doesn't mean I have to get my meat from there. Your arguement could just as easily be seen on the flipside, theres hundreds of thousands of animals in the wild, so why not kill and eat them instead of rasing animals with the sole intent of using them for slaughter later. This is really just a case of the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me, and unless your a vegatarian, an animal still has to die for you to get that meat, so either you or someone else has to kill it and butcher reguardless...not saying I am for or against either, I do both, but you do have to realize both sides of the arguement.

I have officially ceased and now have set my sights on a new target.
