Hurricane Irma?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feel u on the fry I have a beautiful DoviiXRQ batch but my thinking is it'll be easy to replace fry, not so much the parents. I will I could stay to check on th but I think we're taking the Jet to NewYork

I went and purchased a couple of battery operated pumps. One pump supposedly runs 72 hours on two D batteries. Thankfully, I have a few seasoned sponge filters on hand to run on the fry tanks.

As long as the temperatures stay in an acceptable range, I should be fine.

You should have a generator. Not just for the fish, they are great survival tools. I have one at our place in the Olympic Forests in Washington for the extreme weather events we sometimes face in the winters. We also have one at our place down in Arizona as the monsoons there are biblical magnitude flooding events and cause frequent power outages.

It can help you preserve your food, cook food, run all sorts of appliances and tools. Charge cell phones to later call for help. I highly recommend owning a generator no matter where you live.

I'm stacking on this thread versus starting a new one. I'm located in South Carolina, about 250 miles from the coast. I have a group of fry that I REALLY don't want to lose.

Would something like this work for sponge filters? Any idea how I could install a timer on it so that it goes on and off every 5 minutes or so to conserve battery life?

Yes, those will run sponge filters just fine. That's how I will run my sponge filters if I lose power during this storm. I'm in Sarasota Fl

At this point, I hope anyone in FL. Just left the state.
Unfortunately I didn't. It'll be a 4 going to a 3 when it reaches my part of the state.
