Hybrid cats

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unless the hybrids are fertile and viable I don't even see a potential ethical issue. I don't believe either of these hybrids is capable of reproducing so no worries as far as I'm concerned. Plus they're nice to look at and would fit in perfectly with my stock.

know who has these, but just scared of getting them because a member back in 2008, jeox, said his had died suddenly. maybe due to genetics or something of that nature. would love one though.

If someone is going to hybrid something, they should hybrid to make the fish more keeper friendly. Size is always an issue with keeping larger fishes. Maybe a niger with a lima shovel nose will be better. Or a paroon with a sun cat will be more manageable for most of us. It is only my opinion.

People with info are Necrocanis, Oddball, and Co.

The vast majority of these man-made hybrids appear to be not viable. The only viable ones that we have known for sure are the ubiquitous TSNxRTC and the lesser known TSNxLeiarius.

I couldn't agree more. With the overwhelming number of medium sized cats (10-20"), I'm surprised there isn't more work being done with hybridizing more manageable sized animals. Even us aquarists with what would be generally considered "large" tanks (lets say in the 240 range) cant keep any of these interesting hybrids long term.

Now if someone were to make a lima x irwini I'd buy all the specimens I could get my hands on! As for people wondering how the paroon x rtc looks at adult/subadult size, check the link:

A unique monster for sure. Interesting how the features of both species are clearly represented!
