yep, ordinary natural pea gravel, next closest thing to sand.

How does this work with powerheads will it blow around at all like sand would seeing how its small. Also when you vac it do you do it the same way you would bigger gravel or will it get sucked up. The only gravel I've every had was the bigger pieces thats why I ask.

My loach tank has a bare bottom as well and all 50ish of them love it. Lolz. You can try smaller pumps and keep whatever substrate you want. It's your tank. Just try out what works for you.

Yeah ...does it get sucked up when you vacuum?

dude 2 Fx5's and korilla 4's are going to provide you with a LOT of flow for a fw tank, make sure your other fish can handle that kind of flow without stressing them. But asside from that if you angle yor power heads at the right angle you wont blow sand into the intake. I dont point them at the filter intakes, but in the same direction as my FX5 output to help boost it, and it gets most of the debris. What it dosent pick up collects in one of the pits my fish dig up and I just do like a 2-5g water change once it builds up enough to irritate me. Its super easy, fast and you remove the waste instead of filling your filter with it. Unless you have insano high reef flow your going to have some poo collect in dead spots over time.

Yeah thats another thing I was worried about is stressing the fish out. When I move the fish I have now back into the 75 were they came from I'm going to put driftwood and rocks in the 150. With my fx5's I have changed the outtake attachments from the two nozzle to the a single 90 degree 3/4 inch elbow which has increased my flow a lot but still doesn't get under caves and the middle. But like I said it really only does it with sinking wafers because they get so messy when they dissolve. Poo's really not a big issue for me when it comes to setting on the sand I can overlook that and it doesn't float around like the million pieces of sinking pellets do.

I think I'll wait to do anything until I move the fish and get new ones and see what happens. Another thing I just though of is to get three really small powerheads and put one on each size and one in the middle in the back pointing towards to front glass. Small enough to were it doesn't cause a current that would stress fish out but just cause flow or breeze if you will to go over the top of the sand moving any small debris into the front glass and up into the water were the fx5 outtakes will blow it around until it gets to the intakes to get sucked out.

i have two k4 on my 125 wich is also 72x18x25 that seems to be just the right omount of flow for it the debri is always keept to a minimal with out kicking up the sand i have them angeled so that they agitat the surface of the watter mostley but the current is stong to the point if i where to face them directley at the sand it would start to stir it up crating a big patch of barebottom after only a min or two

Thanks for you input bro! What filters are you running and what kind of fish do you have?

Thanks

Sounds like you might be putting too much sinking food in your tank.
If it is dissolving and laying on the bottom uneaten, and then floating around when kicked up, you might try feeding less and see how that works...
