I have been getting into this a great deal lately since reading a thread on this board (plants for filtration). Look into Aquaponics, there raising first and plants for the purpose of eating both.
I'm currently in the very slow ( I'm a broke college student) process of setting up my system. My current setup is a 35 gallon hexagon with yellow belly slider, platy's, 2 clown plecos, red tail shark, one molly. I'm running a fluval 405 for filtering right now, but will be no point it all works in the future. I have a little shower hanger (bought from dollar general for !.50) with a split filter pad and gravel as my little setup. I have a apple, orange, and japanese persimmons trees in there now. The persimmons is growning now after a month, they will all be bonsai. I plan on adding just plane simple high quality grass, as it looks nice and adds a high rate growing plant and a place for the turtle to bask. I'm using a 150W MH with a 20k light.... I think I mimght have to use a 10 K for the plants.
Future setup will have little gutter setup with flowers and some nice smelling veggies as this is all house in my living room in my apartment. I'll make my own thread on this forum in the future of failures. I'm currently wondering as how the turtle will do with limited space and high quality of water this type setup provides.
*** I know I'll need a little more space for turtle***
