That is an ideal size for a 10-12" goliath. Mine is around 10-11" now in a 240 gallon and he will be getting a bigger tank very soon. You can keep them in a smaller tank if you don't mind the face being all banged up and having a very skittish fish. There is also a very real possibility of the fish killing itself by ramming the glass. Also remember these fish can reach over 100 lbs!

ive said that already like twice...

I'm not saying you aren't, but I'd listen to the people here. I would just swing for something like a 180 gallon, and in a little over a year, when he's almost 10-12 inches, get him a massive tank that will tide him over for a long time.

The sooner you get him into a very large tank, the sooner he'll start growing like a weed. My .02 :woot:

haha you're not kidding anyone, we both know i'm not buying what the ppl here're saying, not that i dont appreciate and respect that, and i'm sure the huge tanks probably worked for them, but i'll take my chances with slow and progressive upgrading.

You could probably lessen the skittishness by not having it at floor level. Just a thought. Whenever you walk up to it and kneel down it probably goes crazy..

yeah you have a point there. but it's beside the com table(where i spend almost all my waking moments at home) so i just crouch down besides the tank, prolly doesn't look much different from the chairs legs cause it's not freaking out like it did when i walked up and knelt besides it:D

LOL:D actually i normally do, but i think i can get away with this one, and it'll be experimental, so let's just see how eh?

worst case scenario i can't keep him in a 90g and he's imcompatible with my gar comm, and i sell him to a one of my few friends with big goliaths, so i still have a fall-back plan see.:)

I made the mistake and had a 10" vitt in a six foot tank. I only had him a couple of months. He died after getting spooked and smashing in the glass too hard.
Best of luck...youll need it.

You have a very fast, powerful, and skittish fish in a tiny tank on the floor. Yeah you really care...
