Hydrocynus ID please

hi, I’ve been out of the hobby for a while but I’m finally back and finally managed to find another tiger fish I am useless at telling the difference beteween anything other than the Goliath so I’m going to ask you experts! It was sold as a Goliath but I told them there’s no way that’s what they are... here’s a couple of rubbish pics that I can get for now

Yea I know, I told them to change the label on the tank I can’t tell strait away between a Goliath and the others but I can’t tell the difference between vittatus, Tanzania, breviary, forskhalli etc lol

I have limited experience with this group of fish and the goliath is the only one that I can tell from the other hydros.So did you purchase the fish and did the store people heed your advice?

Yea I got it anyway as I’ve been looking for a tiger for months and couldn’t decide on a species anyway, also he was such good condition I couldn’t say no! They seemed to listen and said they will do more research so hopefully, tbh tho anyone buying a tiger fish should have done a bit of research to know the difference hopefully

Agreed one those who purchase such fish.I would assume that most who do would have some knowledge of them as they are usually rather pricey which would turn away average customers.
Kudos to the staff for seeming to be open to your advice.

After looking through the thread that chicxulub made about their ID I’d say vittatus because the bottom jaw is slightly longer than the top atm but I guess I’ll have to wait and see...
