definitly not armatus.
scombs can be kept together.
redtails can be kept to gether but may fight.
armatus will kill each other on sight.
Not so true... Have you owned Armatus?

yes...
but it died because my redtail killed it when it went into the tank.
i actually got lucky because i bougth it as a scomb.
back then,i didnt know much about payaras, and actually thought it was a scomb.
but after a few mths after joining a forum,i found out.

This even hardly to be true... Either you were very LUCKY, or someone was very CRAZY, consider the price on Armatus is 5 times the price on Scomb. BTW, didn't you say in one of your other post that you haven't seen an Armatus imported to your area?

knwo anyone who has kept armatus together?

My 200 gallons - 1 Redtail, 2 Scomb, and 3 Armatus, all range from 7-9 inches

i only know of one person that has kept 2 armatus together successfully. sorry but 3 armatus together at the 9'' range is NOT keeping them together successfully. IMO

What is the average growth rate of an Armatus from 5"?
If it were not over fed and not under fed?? Tank size 150gls

Mine went from 4" to 12" in three months. I have noticed a sharp decline in growth rate since he hit 12"

jlnguyen, youve had your fish together for what...two months? That is nothing. Now if you can do it two years or more (still nothing compared to the life of the fish) then you have successfully done it!

i would say 1 year MAX

One year would be pushing it, but like I have always said. Unlike most equal sized characins, the armatus is not a skittish fish and seems to know the boundaries of his tank well. That fact will let one get by with a small tank then say an ATF...I think an 8x3 would work for an armatus for a LONG time...
