If you were invited to another hobbiest home, what would it take, or would you never consider, for you to call the authorities on that hobbiest? I understand that people, many people here, become very excitied and buy too many fish at times. But to what extent would it take for you to call the in authorities?

I have been in law enforcement, in the past, and I cannot see ever calling in the law on a fellow hobbiest. I guess that is why I would not make a good Freshwater and Game Warden........just for conversations sake.

Let me add, after thinking for a minute, I am not talking about if you walked into a child porn ring or something bizarre, of course you would call in the law. I am simply talking about fish not being housed up to your personal standards.

There, hope that clarifies things.

So do you want a response, or just food for thought?

I would probably have to witness them torture an animal before I would call anyone about it.

Of course that wouldn't keep me from suggesting a few things to this fellow hobbiest.

LOL Hypothetical and not Rhetorical perhaps?

Whatever..........what would it take?

^derr your probably right, I didn't think of that. I thought it was a trick question. Well if the question was indeed posed to be answered, I can not think of a reason I would alert the authorities but I'm sure there is an instance that I would.
Fish being somehow involved in the child porn ring may be one of many instances I'm not thinking of, and I'm sure there are others.

For fish? I wouldn't, I honestly could not care less. They're fish, as long as the person isn't torturing dogs or planning to bomb some place, I'd let them go about their business.

Do the laws covering cruelty to animals (dogs, cats, etc) actually cover fish as well? I didn't think they did, so is there anything the law could actually do? The only illegal fish keeping activity i can think of off the top of my head is keeping banned species, but i wouldn't call the authorities on them for that if it was well cared for, only if it was starring as a prop in the kiddy porn ring!

Personally I wouldn't call the cops on someone over fish. I have however in the past on people who have starving dogs chained up in their yards, wallowing in filth or starving horses on pasture devoid of grass. That is just me being biased toward your more "evolved" species I suppose.
IMO Altho it would be horrible for someone to keep a bunch of fish in substandard conditions, slowly killing them, how do you really express that to the average person? Much less ask a probably already overwhelmed police department to expend resources and time on fish. Are there laws stipulating care of teleosts? I don't know how they would go about prosecuting either.
