beautiful nics. i recently got 2 from Jeff Rapps and they're just starting to color up! hope mine get as pretty as yours :)

Thanks! Good luck with them. I am just now seeing wigglers this morning. Post pics!

Congratz. They should be great parents.

...Bill

Thanks Bill!

man...i just got rid of mine... i had all males, it wasn't pretty. one spectacular male and 3 really beat up other guys..

Thanks Drey! My male is a push over compared to the female. She's an angry little ninja!

Nice pair, nics have always been my favorite. Hope those carpintes spawn soon too!

The H. carpintis did spawn. Never had such a small species spawn like these two. That tank is bonkers right now. :nilly: Sorry for such a crappy pic, I had to turn up brightness in the pic to see the eggs. They decided to really dig in deep back there.

Nics are very under rated I think. Did you notice anything different about their eggs?

And don't be shocked if the carp's do breed, regular texas have been known to start at 2.5" ...

Edit: Doh. A page 2. Remind me never to post so early in the morning and with such a lack of caffine again!!!

Very nice! Looks like the CA project is coming along nicely ;)

Thanks Peter! Appreciate the kind words!

Thanks Chris! I didn't notice anything strange, should I have? They were pretty large in size in yellow/gold but that's it. The H. carpintis are 2" AT BEST, seriously I was laughing when they spawned. I haven't even sold off the other 4 "fry" I was growing out yet lol..

They are supposed to be the only new world cichlid with non-adhesive eggs if I remember right. Just wondering if you saw any 'tumbleweed eggs' is all.

That is interesting, I didn't know that. Makes sense though since they spawned in a pit and I thought the female moved all of the eggs to the underside of the nearby clay pot.now that I think about it that is inline with the flow. The female has moved the wigglers twice since the brood hatched. So far so good.

Nice looking Nics Justin, congrats on the spawn. I didn't know that about the eggs either very interesting.

I wish I could get my Krobia XO to spawn, the female has moved into a flower pot and the male guards the entrance but I can't see inside to tell if she's on eggs. They're still young, maybe you could send me some of that good water you have!
