Hypsophrys nicaraguensis spawn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ Tom, we can race. :p

Justin, the nics look great. I've gone back and forth about them, and even posted a thread here about them a few months ago. I still haven't taken the plunge though. I'd love to see more pics of them with fry if they cooperate.

Speaking of small spawners... my Geo "Red Bahia" from JD are only 1.5 - 2" and the other day I moved them and found fry in their tank!

Nice looking Nics Justin, congrats on the spawn. I didn't know that about the eggs either very interesting.

I wish I could get my Krobia XO to spawn, the female has moved into a flower pot and the male guards the entrance but I can't see inside to tell if she's on eggs. They're still young, maybe you could send me some of that good water you have!

Thanks Tom! I sure hope your Krobia spawn for you soon. Such a beautiful species. I would take fry from them in a heartbeat!

Thanks Ryan! I read that thread before I bought them. They seem common enough for a few members to be keeping them but don't seem available all too often so I pulled the trigger. Like Chris said, they are a very underated species and I agree with that. If you get the chance go for it. Awesome species and uber colorful. The eyes are what get me, iridecent green.. The Wet Spot here in Portland probably has 3 more male/female pairs if you really want to get them. All already at sexual maturity. The males have a nuchal hump that is about the size of a peanut cut in half... cracks me up!

I am suprised at how well she is fending off the other small fish in this tank.. I pretty much wrote off this spawn assuming most the fry would get picked off but she has managed to keep everyone at bay. The male does absolutly nothing to help with the fry. Pics from todays WC.
