hypthetical stock list 55g

No,niger triggers need BIG tanks. They get 16 inches and are active.Plus, what lionfish species are you planning to house?

IME chromis fish do fine in groups of 6 or more. In a 55 that would be fine, but your losing stocking of other fish. Chromis form a pecking order, and the more that order is spread out the less likely one fish dieing, and another becoming the bullied, and so on.

Firefish, I've never had luck with multiple. They require a good sized tank and even then they'll be at opposite sides.

Id avoid the eel, thats just me however.

Most butterflies, even though some sites say 50 gallons, should be kept in large well cycle tanks. due to there activeness, much like that of a tang, the longer the tank the better. 55 would be better then anything less, but id still advise a hold on the butterfly.

As big gourami said, if you intend and will upgrade in a few years, a lot of this could be tried, and if successful, then start focusing your efforts to that larger tank.

i would be plannaing on getting a Radiata Lionfish (Pterois radiata) the sites ive checked out say they cap out at about 9-10 inches

so now im still really on the fence between a peaceful tank or pred tank

Revised stocking list

Community tank:

2 Firefish
7 Chromis
3 Zebra Barred Dartfish
Flasher Wrasse pair
2 Sleeper Gobies
1 Jawfish
1 Spotted Mandrain

Pred tank

1 Lion (any input on wether a radiata lion would fit in a 55)
1 toby puffer (most likely a spotted puffer)
1 angeler? <--would it work?

i would also like to get a wrasse of the Thalassoma. or Halichoeres. famlies perferably a pinkface wrasse or christmas. but i know these too are active fish so would they be the same problem as the butterflyfish?

do these lists look ok?

again the chromis are going to fight..

as long as care is given when adding this fish (put them in in order of agression)
it should work

the toby and angler might not be a great mix especially if your getting one of the larger types of angerl.
a 3-4" toby + a 9-10" angler = :swear:

but a sargassum or other smaller angler could work

what type of wrasse?

they range from 2 inch long nano tank fish...
to 3 foot long thanksgiving main courses

assuming it's isn't grossly huge or small, sure

Puffers are known to pick and harass lionfish, so either the puffer or the lion.

mmm.. who wouldn't want a quinquevittatum..

good wrasse but a LITTLE large.. by the time you'll want a larger tank he should be starting to outgrow it, so it could work for a while..

i was seriously considering getting one of those if i wasn't going to make my 75 a reef
