hystrix breathing out of 1 lung??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did a 50% water change yesterday. I treated with prazi about 8 days ago. I noticed that when i got home yesterday he was skinny, ever since i got him he has been pretty fat. Thought that was kinda weird, then i noticed that 1 eye looked lower than the other and that one side was not raising when breathing. Then a little while later both sides were breathing again. He ate but maybe only 1 or 2 pcs of cut nightcrawlers 1/4" long. Usually you can see argulus and i do not see any.

from what I know praziquental is for worms not lice, you need to treat with anchors away if lice are present. 2 young hystrix need black worms and need to be fattened up and acclimated b4 offering earthworms etc.

go get yourself a pound of blackworms and fatten him up..... is he chewing on the nightcrawlers repeatedly and not actually eating them? they like smaller food items at this young size...

I would like to also add I wouldnt treat profilactively,,, I would only treat for things I knew were present...if you see lice u treat em,,, if the ray is wasting away u treat for worms etc many a ray have been killed by medicine stress

wormman.com

You can by them directly from the "farm" in california. Google "California black worms". I ordered some from wormman.com, and they came straight from cali. Either or.

i had the same prob. i couldnt for the life of me figure out what it was... then one day i saw this guy floating by... im lucky i dont have substrate otherwise i dont think i ever would have seen it.

we came to the conclusion it came in w the blackworms... i dont feed any other live foods...

i prazi'ed and saw results the next day...

I do not see any lice, he has for sure eaten some cut up worms (cut very small) But yesterday he barely ate, today will not take food. THis all came about so fast... Today he is Getting pretty skinny, i ordered blk worms hopefully they will come in very fast.
He is smimming around a little and jerking around like he is trying to shake something off, what else should i be doing...." any suggestions.

mine did the exact same thing.... ur first prazi didnt do the trick... i had to do a double dose after the first, since the first didnt rid them. nic and others swear by a 4x dose but it scared me to do so much...
plus my leos showed no signs of being sick until about 2 months after i stopped feeding blackworms.

anyway, im bettin its some type of parasite. i would try prazi again or anchors for other types of parasites...

its not the food. if he was eating b4, there is a reason why hes not eating now.

do you think i should do prazi and anchor's?? or one or the other???

i also noticed that where his disc meets his tail it is just a little bit Chalky (white) maybe about a 1/4" diameter.
