hystrix owners-----or just ray owners...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This talk of PH lately is the ONLY reason I even dusted off the ol test kit..... Was curiouis where I am at.

Well no matter what it's starting to look like a mixing vat is in order.... Something along the lines of a 300 gallon rubbermaid tub. Great. I don't have enough room the way it is for all my tanks and now I have to find room for a vat, and the icing on the cake? I can't even keep fish in the friggin thing.

I don't think It would be due to your ph or hardness but maybe some mineral that is high in your water (so kinda hardness). None of my rays have cloudy eyes and my ph can top out at 8.6 and goes no lower than 8. My tds readings are usually around the 600ppm mark but have been quite abit higher and my gh when last tested was 180 ppm. I don't have hystrix but I have leos, henlie, motoro, flower, xingu sp. and tigers all good. Do you add any other chemicals to your water and what type?( eg. water conditioners, charcoal ) What do you run in your filters?
I've got a fairly well priced g.e. r/o filter that does 700gpd http://www.rosystems.com/reverse-osmosis/water-treatment-products/GE-Merlin.html which if your going to mix this is the way to go.

That looks like a badazz ro system....... Definetly has my interest....

what is your ph, and hardness????

just curious, trying to figure out why my hystrix all get cloudy eyes....

my ph is 6.8

hardness (GH) is 75ppm

Alkalinity (KH) is 40ppm.

im still trying to figure out what a test it is? how you guys coming up with these numbers :P

the peat method he uses is ideal screw the RO and all the water you waste.... takes a little fine tuning to get the mix right but its more simple and ideal ;)

The PH I kept my hystrix at was between 6.4 and 7 or so. Got to around 7 after a water change and depending on how long before the next one and how many feedings would determine how much it dropped... Not sure if this helps but...

ha ha....

here is the thing, a friend of mine has hystrix as well and his ph is also high 7.8-8 and he has had his hystrix as long as me...no cloudy eyes. but have not checked the hardness yet. the only difference he has city water i have well water? more minerals in well water i would assume...right?

no, wells can vary greatly.

ph 6.2-6.8
(gh)75ppm
(kh)80ppm
this is a reading from jungle test strip

i have a couple marble motoro with one cloudy eye my thoughts were from shipping
