nic, you've bred hystrix? know anyone that has?

andersp90, know anything about the filtration?

I know alot of people with asian arowanas do very little water changes and combat that by way over doing the filtration.

I've also heard from a few people that small water changes are far better for fish than large frequent changes.

well we need to hear from this guy before we say anything but i will continue with my water chages

this guy who only done water changes every month in a 75g his nitrates must have been throw the roof

why are the adults in the polybox with the pup

I am trying to get in contact with him as we speak. He was moving them back to the 75 gallon.
I can see that he got the rays from germany.

Kind regards Anders.

Maybe there's something there. I'v noticed that with motoro that he was starting to bite on the females discs (still a little young). I recently upped my drip system output to lower my nitrate level and he's stopped any signs of trying to mate.

I am beginning to think that you need “mature” water if you want to breed hystrix

if anything maybe from the water being so old the ph drop started the breeding cycle...

No but i will ask him.. :)

I'm interested to hear about this too. My motoros are breeding regularly with the water parameters I have but nothing from the histrix yet. Perhaps Frank can chime in because his have bred many times.
I love the markings on that female and I agree with T1, why is the pup and the parents in that styro?

The rays all died.. he was doing something right!

Power failure? I bet.. :D

Likely the poor water quality dropped the pH and triggered spawning.. I have 'oldschool' fish junkies come and tell me not doing water changes is the key to spawning fish. Happens to be they only spawn soft-water south american fish that way, crazy..

He was moving them back to his discus tank.

Also, I have been told that the danish breeder got the rays form a German breeder. And it was the german breeder that told him not to do to many water changes. :screwy: He belived that they would develop funges with to much clean water. All this happent less than half a year ago so the german is still out there, doing his water changes once a month. :grinno:
Also the Danish guy is an expert discus breeder.
