I have a habit on doing water change. No matter how clean or dirty is my tank I always, I mean always do water change every 3 days and 50% of water. I do it to every tank I own.

Do you guys think it's to much?? I just believe no matter what kind of fish, a clean water always help the fish get healthy and grow faster.

Youre doing the right thing.. And if youre going to keep rays for a long time, you have to regular water changes.

I do a 5 - 10 gallon water change on my 120 every day, and a 20 - 30 gallon change on it once a week. Something similar for my wifes Oscar tank.

I do 25% weekly on most tanks 25% 3 x a week for new fry tanks sometimes but not always. 50% 3 x weekly is overkill unless you're stocking very heavily. You are not helping your fish by doing so many water changes and in fact could be harming them by removing beneficial nutrients and minerals not found in tap water that develop as water ages. Your best bet is to get a super accurate test kit and test your water every other day. When you notice the indicators getting higher, do a change, otherwise don't because it isn't neccessary. After that, keep testing until you see the indicators up again. Once youve done this a few times it will give you a good idea of how often you should be doing h20 changes to keep your fish happy.

Sounds like good practice to me! Also depends on your stocking levels as well...

you do your water changes just like me
every three days at least 30% is what i do
want my fish to be as healthy as possible

Same here, started years ago and just got in to a routine, now not only do I feel the need to do it even when I could let it go the fish have come to expect it and get very put off if I screw with the routine.

My In-laws think I am crazy cuz to them it seems like I just did a water change and I am already doing another one. When you have big tanks, doing multiple waterchanges a week can be annoying. But if you love it, its a snap!! Woot!!

Besides, waterchanges bring out the full colors and behavior of your fish! LOVE IT!

I would say that what you are saying holds for the average hobbyist who doesn't think to ensure that water chemistry of the water that he is adding is the same as what he took out. However, I would be fairly certain that he is adding water of equivalent chemistry and temperature, and he is doing it at a rate that doesn't disturb the filters or fish and decorations. If you talk to some of the world's foremost breeders (i.e. Jack Wattley, the "greatest discus breeder who ever lived"), you'd see that many of them advocate up to 40% daily water changes to condition them for breeding and raise fry, no matter what the actual bio-load. "Conditioning for breeding" is mostly synonymous with "giving your fish the healthiest environment possible". I would say that what both you and sticky~rice are doing falls into the category of "excellent fishkeeping". Keep up the good work, guys.:) If I didn't live in a dorm room, 2 1/2 hours away from 12 out of 14 of my tanks, I'd be modeling my water changing regimens off of yours!
