I am overstocked What about you ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feel bad for the OP's fish, as well as his potential dogs/cats/children who are undoubtedly also mistreated

I hope this doesn't start that ridiculous JDM trend again... if you did that with reptiles people would flame you to tears... why it's acceptable with fish is beyond me

Yes i did answer my own question .... i could not keep my Nitrates in check because i was WAY overstocked. My Nitrates are now in check thanks to 2 things
1- i got rid of a few fishes
2- i now have a continuous water change system and change 125g a day

Even if my tank is still overstocked i am sure my current water parameter ( Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5 ) are as good and most probably better then yours. Tell me you change more than 25% water DAILY
Dont feel bad for my fishes they are living a good life as i spare no expenses for them.
I dont mistreat my fishes i just like more then less and that is my style so please stop hating
Also dont feel bad for my little "Lola" the French Bulldog she gets 3 walks a day and her food contains 0 corn and no fillers :)

By the way this is not a reptile forum so please keep them out of this.

As far as "bragging" about being overstocked. I do not feel like this is what i am doing i am just being honest about what is in my tank and want to know who else is doing what. I think people should aspire to do what they want. Have a dream and go for it. My tank My dream I AM LIVING IT

Here is a picture of my "mistreated dog"

OP, I think you answered you own question. You can't keep your nitrates in check because you are overstocked. One of the easiest ways to keep your nitrates in check (although this is rarely ever practiced) is to understock. I guarantee you will have healthier fish and the hobby will be more enjoyable (as opposed to a constant battle to keep your water parameters in check).

It really seems like you and others are bragging about overstocking, which isn't really something anyone should aspire to.

And I dont' think I was being harsh by nominating that tank full of bass for UTOTM. It seriously looks like a fish market tank (JDM), not something that would be enjoyable to look at unless you like seeing fish that can't swim without bumping into their cell mates.

I agree but still to each is own

Thats your setups and you are trying to tell me What ???????? sounds to me like you got a buch of jailcells in your room. please feel bad about your stock before worrying about mine seriously.
O wait i just realized you are 15 years old. please stop assuming things you are way to young to assume anything you got a lot of living to do before you actually know anything meaningful

Dude, I haven't updated my stock list here on MFK in over a year. I don't even have my fish anymore. And all my setups were actually adequate... as are my current reptile ones... so I don't get the "jail cell" thing here. And I'm glad your water parameters are fine, that's great, but did you ever think maybe fish like their territory and space? In fact isn't that the first thing we look at in keeping different species together, the fact that they like their own territory? And chalking it up to "my tank my dream" is just selfish. What if I aspire to hoard 300 dogs in my basement? Can I do that? No, because dogs are living animals and should be treated as such, I'm sorry you dont see fish as being so, as well.

And don't even try to bring my age into this, if you're keeping fish that way then obviously you have no leg to stand on in the "maturity" department.;)

This. I know all these JDM fanboys can keep their params in check with drip systems and such, but having all those fish together in such close quarters seems like it would stress them out. It'd be interesting if when the whole JDM fad was really in its prime if all those people came back a year later with updates, and so see how many of them killed ("sold") off threir larger fish.

Obviously you have never kept Arowanas . when you have a community of them they do much better in a group of 6+ . This is a very common setup for a arowana community tank

The territory is split like this
Arowanas at the surface Dats mid-water and bottom turtle + catfish at bottom
ZERO inter-specie aggression .
Why would you even compare my tank to having 300 dogs in a basement ? It true that that statement as shock value but not much else. That being said if you want to have 300 dogs in your basement go ahead thats your prerogative . But i must warn you its going to be hard to walk them all at once and it will probably stank up your whole house .

I dont consider myself a fish hoarder or a a JDM tank people i am just a guy who likes more fish then less. You are right i dont consider my fishes like animals they are my babies
I have had most of these fishes for about 2 years now and the turtle for about 7 years i can assure you they will all be fine next year. the only one i will probably let go is the TSN .

I glad to hear you dont have fishes anymore and yes i do consider 5g 10g like jailcells because thats what they are.
Anyway why are you even on MFK if your not even a fishkeeper. Dont answer its ok.

And like i said just dont assume so much. because you dont know much about me or my fishes

Darn everytime there's a nice stocking thread around here those "fish rights advocates" have to ruin it with their remarks. We don't tell u to add more fishes to ur tanks when u list ur stock cuz the fishes r not hoppy cuz they feel lonely. :D To each his own...

I am over stocked by mfk standards because I have more than 1 fish in each of my tanks.

LMAO :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:Soooo true!!

im not over stocked. yet ;)
trying to find fish that can go in a tank with a 2ft rtc is kinds hard :(
fish i need are: gator gar, watercow, some pbass, a few dats, and one or 2 huge bichirs. and a few random fish thrown in there also.
im workin on it slowly but surely

Actually 5-10g tanks are fine for SMALL FISH that are appropriate for the size of the tank. And the reason I am still on MFK, is that I still enjoy talking about fish and with the people here, and I like the reptile section. And I still have 2 fish... a Belly Crawler Pike and a Clown Pleco... ina 20 long just because I couldn't bring myself to get rid of them. I hope I answered your questions. And no matter how hard you try, god knows you will, you can't justify keeping fish like that. Keeping 6+ Arowanas is fine... given that you have a HUGE tank. That's what you don't seem to get, the issue of scaling the tank to the number and size of fish, in it. Everything is relative.

HA HA HA Child please

I dont have to justify anything to you or to anybody. I know what i like and what works for me .
IT IS WHAT IT IS

I also have a MBU puffer in a 220g :)
