I am sick of Algae.

I've never had one bit of algae in my non-planted tanks. Sometimes I wish it would grow. What's your lighting, and how many hours?

i recomend a great big pleco. my 75g aquarium is rite in front of a window and gets all sorts of sunlight, but no algae

We are having one algae problem after another in my daughters planted piranha tank. Used UV to get rid of the green water, then the tank was taken over by green and black hair algae. Took all the plants out and scrubbed and dipped them in bleach water. Now I am trying to manically remove as much as possible from the tank. I am afraid to add any fish that might control the problem, the RBP eat each other I don't think anything else would last long. Can't keep the lights off or the plants will die. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Planted tanks are different, very different. Most, and almost all of the time, algae problems in planted tanks are due too much light and/or not enough co2. In your case, the problem is too much light, I'm sure.

What amount of time for the lights to be on would you recommend?

My planted tanks run 6-8hrs max. And it's not just hours, could be intensity as well.

I am running way more than that, I will reset the timers and see if it helps. Thanks.

I don't mind if it is on the back and sides. But when it is on everything, including streamers on the fish from swimming through it, it is time to do something.

I grow the algae for my Africans, running 4 T5's 10+ hrs a day. I keep the glass clean with daily swipes from the magfloat. Looks great and the Mbuna eat it like crazy. I love algae as long as it's not on the glass.
