Recently my zonatus have been really scatty, there in a 180 gal with some very small Congo tetra which are just as scatty, the zonts completely ignore the tetra even though they could swallow them easily. So I decided to add six sword tails, all was good for 3 days the zonts were a bit calmer and out and about more then I went away for 2 days came home to find all the sword tails have completely disappeared not a single trace, they were too big for the zonatus to swallow so either he has a deep hatred of anything orange ( best keep him out of Essex) and he has ripped them apart and eaten the remains or swordtails are aliens and have returned to the mother ship, either way I am back to having lots of fish hiding.

Are you sure your swordtails didn't just die and then get eaten?
A lot of lfs swordtails are vastly over bred and are very weak. They are also very prone to bacterial infections.
lol ....and LFS mollys, guppys, tetras, danios, and platys.................and cichlids too. Corporate chain fish probably have about a 50% survival rate on a good day, sadly.

Do you have any carnivorous or predatory catfish in that same tank?

The zonatus could have ripped them apart at night and the remains may have just gotten sucked up into the filter.

My experience with zonatus and argentea are most of the damage happens quickly doesnt get dragged out. They probably saw the swords as competition since they were bigger

Healthy swordtails should work.I have kept swordtails with large veija on numerous occasions without issue.

I agree. I've had very little luck when it comes to chainstore swordtails. It's a shame too because they're awesome little fish
