cons are just great they look nice they have very different personalities from one another, and they are so ambitious. funny to say about a fish but they will breed anywhere, really an awesome cichlid and anyone with a tank 55 gallons and up should put in a con or two no matter whats in there. they are awesome.

I tried a con with my FH but it had it's face ripped off.

I should have given you my old salvini, i'm sure he would have given your FH a run for its money. Honest to god that fish was THE MEANEST fish i've ever had. It seriously killed a breeding convict pair that was in the tank with him, along with a couple other of my fish....ended up being forced to euthanize him since no pet shop around would take him and i wasn't going to Omaha or Lincoln in a while, and he finished off all 10 of the tiger barbs and got barb'd in the throat.

:iagree: there is always room for a con in any tank of mine

word.

I just introduced a Jack to my Oscar Tank which has a Con pair in it as well. The male is around 3 inches and the female an inch and a half. The con and oscar were quite peaceful but the con actually squared off against my brute of an O a few times (I think the cons were breeding). Now it is really interesting the Jack bullies the male con, the O (12 inches) seriously bullies the new jack (5 inches). Thank god for hiding spots!!!

My Texas and juvenile Firemouths pretty much ate all my Convict's fry...I have no more frys. My male Con tried to fight them off as much as possible but at the end he was just out numbered. He probably could have saved his fry if he didn't fight off the female but he already pushed the female away so he was left alone guarding the frys by himself. Now he just sits in a corner, sad, stressed and still getting picked on by the Texas. I'll probably be taking the male Con out of my tank soon if this doesn't change.
