I think I have ich in my american cichlid tank (I see one white spot on my gold severum's fin and 2 white spots on my nicaraguense's fin). I just put a four line pimelodella catfish in, what would be the best way to go about treating this since I know the medications on a scaleless catfish are dangerous.

I am weary of using my bottle of rid-ich.

everyone on this board is so knowledgable I know someone can help.

thanks

I raise the temp in my tank and get a good ICH treatment one that is safe on scaleless fish, i dont know any good places to buy ICH treatment on mars but here in australia i use wardleys ichaway... ist good on scaleless fish. also after the treatment you want to do a really good clean of your gravel, that is where the parasite's eggs are.

aw yes that was so fast, thanks guys, there's treatment that isn't harmless for scaleless fish? I didn't know that, I thought the chemicals were still harmful, but the solution was diluted or something. I will definitely look into that.

Alright Wyldfya should I do a partial water change first and then add aquarium salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of ALL the water in the tank, or just the water I added)? And should I just turn the heater up over the course of a day and how long should I keep it up? Until theres no more spots?

just buy ick medicine at an lfs

thats what i used when my oscar got ick and it cleared it up in a couple of days

yea half the recommended dose is a good way to go, but its going to take a lot longer to clear up. maybe try triple-sulfur, it seems to work better for scaleless fishes.

Ok, I am going to try the aquarium salt temperature raise technique first, and then if it looks like its getting worse, I will try the half dose of the rid-ich.

What is triple sulfur? I tried to google it, but I couldn't find anything related to fish.

aghhh crap i put a full ick dose on my tank and its got a pictus cat... 2days ago i did it and hes fine??? what should i do iam using interpet anti whitesport plus. but it doesnt say dont use it when scaleless fish are in dont use, it says dont use wen mormyrids are presant? am i ok they guy said it would be ok?>

yea well you might be ok, but theres just more chance of something going wrong if you use a full dose on scaleless fish. but ive never heard of interpet anti whitespot plus so maybe its ok.
