I took another trip to the LFS to buy a large net and also check in on the status of this guy that I saw last week. Turns out he's been there for two months, but I mis-remembered the size of him when he got there. He hasn't grown all that much, because he doesn't eat a whole lot, according to the guy. He's still quite beautiful and I made a point to make sure he didn't have dropeye.

Anyway, they still want 129 and wouldn't go below 100 for him, so I'm just going to wait them out. I may go as high as 70-75 just to make them feel like I'm not totally ripping them off, but I'd really rather not.

Anyway, two tanks over they had a brand new little guy that they only wanted $20 for. I figure that's still probably a bit of a ripoff but I didn't care. I agreed and now have made the plunge into Arowana ownership. :headbang2

I put him in my 55 planted for now to grow a bit since there's nothing in there that will harass him (althrough the dominant male curviceps has been curious about him). This will be fun raising him from such a young age. And hopefully he will end up as colorful as the 6 incher at the store.

I don't have any experience with the babies though so I just want to post pictures here and make sure he's not a jardini or something that just hasn't colored up.

So here he is, my first aro:

I'm relatively new to Arowana keeping but everything I've read seems to indicate he should be over a foot in a year. I have a variety of food options, hopefully he'll appreciate what I have and eat a lot. I figure I'll let him reach 4-5 inches in this tank and then move him into the bigger one. If I had purchased the bigger one at the store he'd go in the bigger tank with the expectation of growing to about 18" by next year, when I'd have to make sure I got the monster tank I'm planning to have.

definitely a silver aro. nice little one too! i got mine at 1.5" February of 2007 and it's now at 15" just over a year later.

Thats a beautiful little itty bitty..so cute! make sure you cover every single solitary opening on top... no matter how insignificant..tape it up..they jump and they always find the space that is open..then remenber later to weigh down the top with something heavy..

congrats and good luck. any tankmates until they're at least 8 inches can be a risk

sweet! good luck with it!

loving the yellow color fins :)
