I can't beleive what I just did! (Petroleum Jelly + fish = ?)

The only filters I've had that were that noisy are the Marineland Penguin 350's. Gawd I hate those things. Out of 8 of them ordered at once several years ago, only 1 is still running. I'd have beat the filter to peices with the jar of vasoline and forked over the money for another one.

I have come close to giving it a good hiding!

I only have experience with Eheims and the Juwel internal and they have all been silent.

I ordered a new impeller today so hopefully that will make a difference, if not i'll have to bite the bullet and get something else but i'm getting into trouble with how much i'm spending on this tank.

It should not do any harm to your fish really. Only if they actually eat a globule of the stuff could it do any real damage (if at all!)

The substance is inert, and safe to apply to human skin. It will not affect oxygen transfer in the fish, unless you coat the gills in it totally!!

Don't panic too much It is a good idea to remove it for asthetics though

You beat me to it. I also use it on the seals of my cannisters with no ill effects ever. Not in copious amounts like described in this thread though

If these were so bad then why did you buy 8 of them? Why would you bash one to pieces and buy another one?

Read my post-I ordered them all at once. I know Marineland's Emperors are good filters and assumed their Penguins were also. Big mistake.
