My 4'x2'(95gal) ray tank has been setup for about a year w/ an FX5 and AC110 for filtration.

All water parameters are perfect(0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5-10ppm nitrate) except for my alkalinity and pH. I haven't had any adverse affects, but my alkalinity being at zero and pH at 5.8-6.0 does worry me in the back of my head. I haven't had a pH drop or any problems at all but.... I know bad things can happen with 0 alkalinity.

I've been using Seachem neutral regulator for about 4 months, with no change in either level. I've also been using Mardel buffer up for about 6 weeks, also with no change in either level.

What the hell is the problem and what can I do to fix it???

Any suggestions are appreciated.

crushed coral in the sump maybe???

:iagree: crushed coral will do the trick or chunks or coral rock in the tank as ornaments:D

Wouldn't crushed coral raise hardness? If so, how would Rays handle that?
I would think he would want to raise the PH without adding hardness but I could be wrong.

where is the water coming from?

the place i use to live i had the same problem. I taste the water there and it is drink-able where i live now the water taste nasty but my ph is at 8.2. it is nasty that i had to put a water filter on my fauset. if you go to my friends house, if you taste the water there it will dry your mouth! I believe that it has to do where you get you water from.

tb,

do you want to raise the pH or raise the alkalinity?

I think your best bet would be to raise alkalinity so that water changes do not affect pH and neither does normal tank stuff.

I have never tasted dry water before. What are you basing your information on? It sounds pretty ludacris if you ask me.
