I.D for CA TX Cichlid

Where in Texas did you get him?
yeah well yours looks like a texas to me, but i can't tell you for sure it is. i'm just tryin to give you a comparison to what a wild specimen looks like, other than acting like a super know it all.

i got him in the san gabriel river a bit north of austin. have caught quite a few and more than most look like this. i actually got a female the same day, and her head/forehead looked exactly like yours..
 
Are they hard to catch? What kind of tackle did you use? Know any where else that might possibly have these species of fishes?

not too hard, just have to have a little patience as the common perch hit it automatically. nightcrawlers and hooks is all that's worked so far for the big ones, net the little ones off shore. as for where else to get them in your area, i have no clue!
