i dont care if you hate me for this

That's my point you hold these venders in a godlike status, you take their word the fish is wild? If so in reference to the George Strait song, I also have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale....

Jeff rapps isn't the only reliable source. Don conkle, cichids of the americas, cichlid connection, and aquascape online are all great places to get rare cichlids. There are also great mfk members who keep rare, wild caught, and "true" fish. Fishman09, Umbeeking, and freshwater preadators; just to name a few. If your looking for a true gt, start a thread saying that you wan't a gt. Most likely it will consist of links to jeff rapps' website, but you'll still find a true gt. You don't even live that far from jeff rapps so shipping wouldn't be so outrageos. Unfortunately, when buying fish online shipping will almost always cost more than the fish.

Here is my 2 cents and you can take it or leave it , dealers like "jeff rapps" provide a "higher end" product for those whom feel the need to know the lineage or source country or whatever about their fish, so for this example were gonna call jeff rapps the ferrari of fish importation granted he isnt the be all end all of fish imports but the dude has built a rep of having quality stock with if nothing else a more "controlled" approach to what he brings in,
Now if jeff rapps is the ferrari of imports then "petsmart" would be the chevy chevette or ford escort of the fish game..
While you may not have such high standards, some folks on here in my exp with mfk do. So in summary im not super fussy when it comes to the source of my fish so long as I <key word> feel as though the fish is healthy and is the species that I was looking for.

if your after a gt they sell them ****s at petsmart, I have a 10 inch male gt from petsmart and he is balling , that being said as i pointed out before im not super fussy and im sure some gt expert will come on here and rip the ISH out of my fish and give a 100000 reasons why the one they bought from rapps is 100% better and mine is a mutt but really who cares

case and point while driving a ferrari may be fun if you have the bucks , you can still go get your groceries in a jacked up ford escort if those are your options.. remember it is up to YOU to decide what you put in your tank , patience and research are the 2 greatest things to learn with keeping fish..

another side note a gt is one of the few fish from the ca/sa world that even in its "ford escort" form is still reasonably unmolested due to their lack of ability to hybridize

take it or leave it but when your hobby begins to bring you a great level of agravation maybe you might want to think about why you got into the hobby in the first place
breathe grasshopper , find your happy place and remember it supposed to be fun, a rewarding exp that you electively got involved in if it brings you to rant/rave level of frustration maybe you are in the wrong hobby..

+1

rapps has a rep for being legit , i dunno i have never used him because i live in the anus of the universe and shipping is more than i can sneak past my wife coupled with the 2 hour drive to the airport , However you dont get a "good rep" by bs'ing or false flagging his product i dont doubt for a second that he has quality goods but if you wanna play with the big boys you need to be willing to drop the big boy bucks.

that being said a good sales man can sell a snowcone to an eskimo, so its all about what your about , if you know the difference between a healthy example of a fish and you have some common sence you can stock your tank without rapps, but if you wanna have that little astrix beside the stocklist in your tank that reads f1 or f0 wildcaught then, buck up and buckle up.
but from my point of view who cares where it comes from so long as it is what YOU decided you wanted in your tank and you are pleased with your stock then who gives a $hizzlestick.
f0 or f1999 doesnt mean shiz so long as you are pleased with your stock.
and yopu guys are lucky man , you can go to petsmart/petco or whatever mass pet chain and rescue those wicked flowerhorns and buy stuff that is out of my playing field because our local petsmarts ect do not bring them in,
another thing if your down with some mystery breed some hybrids man , take a couple of whatevers and hybridize have some fun, us freaks on the hybrid side of the fence are way more fun than these purists anyways, and if you start playing dr frankenstien you can choose what traits your after, f1 or f1000000000000 means nothing so long as your having fun

see my rescue freaks you ought to try it , rewarding growing out some mystery fish..

No one they god like status you put that in your own head. And yes I would if he is the only importing stalabergis and other rare fish like true wild Red Devils and Midas. Or even the very rare Mexico wild jack dempseys. Very few vendors have access to these types of fish when 75% of his stock is wild , f1 or f2

Mr. B ? My point is there are venders out there that sell wild fish at large sizes in large quantities with locations which are not wild pond raised if that, I even know the people who supplied them! It's ridiculous to spend these crazy prices on fish marketed as something they are not. I have in the past bought from these venders paid insane prices along with high shipping quotes, I have ended this years ago, unless there is a fish I must have now which I haven't run into lately. For example there is "wild ornatum" for $100 for a 3 inch fish while another vender has the same fish for $50 at 5 inches, I understand this is a business but I'm looking for a reasonable price for a fish, I have no interest or concern to fatten someone wallet, if you want wild either collect your own or get your fish from close trusted friends....

Yes, I used your last initial. I'm sure a couple people around here like me know exactly who and how involved in the hobby you are. Let's see...
I cannot think of the any local fish friends I have in the northwest that have less than two kids. Most don't have time to take their wives out on dates because they work so much. How are they supposed to up and go collecting in another country? If that's not possible, and no one else is doing it to have "close trusted friends" to buy wild fish from, what's your suggestion? Just shop at petco?

I don't order from rapps any more because I had horrible customer service from him when I just tried to get my money back on a fish that came dead.
