I think we need to get Iraq finished ASAP. The longer we're there the worse off we (and our allies) are. I'm not saying pull out, but quit going about it afraid of media hype on casualties. Quick in, quick out sort of deal. The UN can deal with setting up a functional government. We took care of Sadam, if they want a civil war, let them have one.

I'm just a civi though, and the scope of war is way more then I can sort out. So just like most of what the media, congress people, and other civies say, should be taken with a pound of salt.

True. We need to get this done ASAP, and then jump on Iran and Syria. Give those people some freedom. National Geographic showed a hanging of a 16 year old girl, because she was a little "mentally challenge", but those people don't know it. So they just hanged her because of the "holy police" caught her skipping while on her way home. to them that seemed "unholy". What we do now is to stop being nice and dandy, and start merciless hunting of these morons killing even their own people. how idiotic is that!!!

I don't know if i can jump off a plane to help you, but i can go on the foot, and look for baddies

The use of nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare is still illegal for us to use. I think it was based on a ruling by the international court of justice in 1996. It would be hard for us to justify such an attack, when these weapons were suppsedly one of the very reasons we went into Iraq. The other capabilites we have in smart, precision weaponry, global reach and aero/space power are effective and still unmatched. Its our resources and manpower to support another action of this scale that is diminishing. I've said this before, we of the military are tired, but we will still go when they say go, and we will still fight when they say fight. all in hopes that what we do is for the benefit of mankind, we trust our leadership and devote our lives to serving in the name of a country that feels that something must be done.

Right, but there have been treaties before, which the US ignored or withdrew from unilaterally all throughout history: From treaties with Native Americans all the way to 2002, when Bush ended the ABM treaty with Russia (USSR).

Can't argue with you there. I still believe (and hope) that we are far from having to resort to turning our back on this one and utilizing these weapons. It contradicts what is instilled in us from the first day we enlist, the very basic prinicples of war, Rules of engagement, and the law of armed conflict.

this is the response i've been looking for. thank you for the wonderful insight, best point of view i've read. but it makes me angry that this type of civility is what is making us very vulnerable from attacks from within. the leniency of our security or securites is our own worst enemy... my frustrations being voiced out. but it is good to know that we have clear thinkers in our military...with all due respect. i think we all have every bit of Pat Tillman instilled within us.
